Acapulco Gold

Acapulco Gold is a New York City-based streetwear brand founded in 2006 by Augie Galan and Geoff Heath. The two met in 1998 while working together at Supreme, where they developed expertise in retail, design, and production. After nearly a decade there, they launched Acapulco Gold to create a premium independent label on their own terms.

Key Facts

  • Founded: 2006
  • Founders: Augie Galan and Geoff Heath
  • Headquarters: New York City, USA
  • Industry: Streetwear, Skate, Apparel, Accessories

History

Acapulco Gold began with T-shirts, hats, and skate decks, built around bold graphics that drew from New York iconography, hip-hop, punk, and surf culture. The brand quickly earned a reputation for superior quality in fleece and outerwear, distinguishing it from contemporaries in the independent streetwear scene. Bobby Hundreds’ 2011 list of the 50 Greatest Streetwear Brands of All Time ranked Acapulco Gold 22nd, citing its fleece and outerwear as exceptional.

Over the years the brand expanded into diffusion lines including Bricks, High Post, and Instant Winner, each exploring different design themes while staying rooted in the core Acapulco Gold aesthetic. The brand has collaborated with Nike SB and other major brands, and has hosted community skating events in New York including The King of Spring and Rooftop Rampage.

Aesthetic

Acapulco Gold’s visual language centres on multi-layered graphic references, including flips on graffiti film imagery and high-fashion logos. The brand has a distinctly New York personality — irreverent and culturally knowing — that has kept it relevant across nearly two decades.
