Alife

Alife is a New York City streetwear brand and creative collective founded in 1999 by Rob Cristofaro, Arnaud Delecolle, Tony Arcabascio, and Tamara Grunberg. Opening a concept store on Orchard Street on the Lower East Side, Alife was one of the earliest brands to blur the line between streetwear retail, art, and cultural curation — establishing a template that much of the industry would follow.

Key Facts

  • Founded: 1999

  • Headquarters: New York City, USA
  • Industry: Streetwear, Footwear, Accessories

History

Alife’s original Rivington Club store on the Lower East Side became a destination for limited sneaker releases and creative collaborations at a time when that model was genuinely novel. The brand operated as a collective as much as a label, producing its own apparel while hosting art installations, events, and collaborations with brands including Nike, Reebok, and adidas. Its sneaker collabs in particular became highly sought-after among collectors in the early 2000s.

Over two decades the brand has evolved through various creative phases, returning to prominence with new collections and collaborations while maintaining its New York roots and anti-corporate ethos. Alife is considered a foundational brand in the history of independent New York streetwear.

Aesthetic

Alife’s visual language is bold and irreverent, drawing from New York graffiti culture, downtown art, and the city’s eclectic street energy. The brand produces T-shirts, hoodies, headwear, and accessories alongside footwear collaborations, maintaining a design sensibility that is always distinctly New York.
