Left Field NYC is an American heritage menswear and denim brand founded in 1998 by Christian McCann in Brooklyn, New York — making it one of the oldest independent American-made raw denim brands operating today. Starting from his apartment, McCann built Left Field around a conviction that remains radical in its consistency: everything should be made in the USA, from American materials where possible, using the original machinery and techniques that produced the vintage American clothing he revered. The brand’s signature green bar-tack stitching is visible on every garment as a mark of American craft and McCann’s uncompromising standards.

History and Materials
McCann’s deep obsession with vintage American clothing — developed through childhood visits to antique flea markets — shaped everything about Left Field. He was among the earliest American designers to engage seriously with Japanese selvedge denim culture at a time when most American consumers weren’t aware it existed. The brand started with T-shirts and sweats before building out the denim programme. Early collections referenced specific historical chapters of American working life: coal miners, loggers, railroad workers, outdoorsmen. The brand’s skull logo was inspired by the Black Maria, a cart that carried the bodies of mining casualties — a gesture toward the darkness and sacrifice woven into American working history.
A defining feature of Left Field’s denim programme is its commitment to the last surviving American selvedge denim mill: Vidalia Mills in Louisiana, which operates the original Draper X3 shuttle looms acquired from Cone Mills’ White Oak plant when it closed. This makes Left Field one of a tiny number of brands producing jeans from both American-made selvedge denim and American labour — a supply chain so short and so domestic that it constitutes a genuine category of its own. Canvas fabric comes from Mount Vernon Mills in Georgia, operating since 1850. Union Special chain-stitch hemming is available in-store on a vintage machine.
Aesthetic and Products
Left Field produces five-pocket jeans, chinos (the “Work Uniform” chinos), loopwheeled T-shirts, flannel shirts, work jackets (the “Muleskinner” trucker jacket), leather jackets in collaboration with Vanson Leathers, and accessories — all anchored by the green stitching signature and a commitment to materials of documented provenance. The brand also stocks curated vintage and works with Tokushima natural indigo dyers for limited editions. Sub-label Choctaw Ridge produces vintage-style undergarments and nightwear.
